Tom Hallet–artist, sculptor and storyteller–has been a guest at the M-studio in Cas-co for the past five months as M-resident. During M-IDZOMER, from 28 to 31.07, Hallet will present the result of this residency: large-scale drawings and sculptures that enter into dialogue with two prehistoric millstones from M's collection.
In a visual universe where mythology, queerness and personal chronicles merge, Hallet examines social constructions as well as history and attempts to use visual art to introduce an inclusive narrative. The presentation has been given the title 'Mare', a word with many meanings. In English it is a female horse, but you can also read it as the French word mère: mother. It also refers to a pond and a story. These four themes are central to Hallet's work. ‘Mare’ can be visited daily from 11:00 – 16:00 with a museum ticket.
During the summer festival M-IDZOMER, the presentation is activated daily by a performance by viola player Victor Guaita and dancer Jacob Storer. Through movement and improvisation, the performers respond to Hallet's installation. The performance is only accessible to visitors with a ticket from M-IDZOMER.
M-residence
M supports emerging talent and gives artists the opportunity and space to create new work through the M-residency. Each year, two artists are selected for the residency, who then get to work at the-M studio in Cas-co for five months. They follow an intensive trajectory with substantive, financial and technical guidance, which culminates in a presentation.
