Jessica Warboys (°1977, United Kingdom) divides making between studio and nature. Her work explores the border between the concrete and the ephemeral, between image and movement.
In the sea paintings series, which she has been making for the past several years, the ritual and the artistic process come together. She applies pigments to sea soaked canvas - the waves, wind and sand each leave their trace on the work.
Natural elements also play a significant part in her cyanotypes. The photographic negative is created by the shadows of various forms that are exposed to sunlight on a photosensitive canvas. The execution of these large-scale canvasses is closely linked to performance and improvised movement - the same is true of Jessica Warboys’ films. The plots of her 16 and 35mm films unfold gradually, like a kind of riddle or visual poem. For her exhibition at M, Jessica Warboys is exclusively presenting new productions.
Jessica Warboys closes her exhibition with a selection of her films : A l’étage (2010), Stone Throat (2011), Pageant Roll (2012), Thunderclap (2012), Ab Ovo (2013), Hinge Bow (2013), Boudica (2014) and Shaded Wood (2015). The screening will culminate in a performance by artist Morten Norbye Halvorsen (sound) and performer Ruby Raven (hula hoop dance).
