Perhaps you already know that alabaster usually is white and sometimes gets mistaken for marble. But did you know that it to this day is widely used for art and kitsch? It has a history all its own with the Low Countries as the leading centre.

The 'Alabaster' exhibition comprises no less than 150 objects. That is pretty impressive. One of the guides at M will be happy to lead you through the highlights of this exhibition. Together with friends and family, discover the peculiarities of the material and the techniques used to work it. Come face-to-face with a selection of masterpieces from the exhibition, such as the Sleeping Nymph by Willem Van den Broecke, and seek out similarities with the use of alabaster in contemporary art.
